There is a similar phenomenon with Online Christianity: People spend much of their time arguing over and engaging in polemics and apologetics over particular dogmatic and theological disputes within Christianity. (Which is not to say that Christians should be arguing with non-Christians; just that there is a common modern tendency to hyper-focus on minute differences.) In part, it comes down to the significantly greater difficultly of building and being positive, compared to destroying and being negative.

I increasingly think that the most effective and instructive people on "the Right", are those, like Owen Benjamin, who are simply building up a small, real world community of like-minded people, and opting out of the system and the various debates of all sorts. Winning will look like actually building something worthwhile, and being a living example to others; not owning someone on a rhetorical point.
