"I fear that … I may be held presumptuous … But since my intent is to write something useful to whoever understands it, it has appeared to me more fitting to go directly to the effectual truth of the thing than to the imagination of it. Many have imagined republics and principalities that have never been seen or known to exist in truth; for it is so far from how one lives to how one should live that he who lets go of what is done for what should be done learns his ruin rather than his preservation. For a man who wants to make a profession of good in all regards must come to ruin among so many who are not good." NIccolo Machiavelli

Realpolitik is like fresh water in a desert.

Thank you for writing about the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo. I'm a 5th gen CA and most inhabitants of this once great State have zero idea how this state came to be, especially it's Governor.

It's been a fascination of mine since I first read the terms of the treaty, and realized how far it differs from the way we're taught about everything. The war may have been questionable, from a strict JW perspective, but the peace was solid.

“The purpose of war is peace.”

Er, no. Of course not.

War is killing and destruction to achieve a goal.

And that goal is, a peace that suits you. The goal of war isn’t killing and destruction, that’s the means.

If the goal is Peace ☮️ let’s stay home. We have fought enough wars for peace 😂. I have.

- because you see in reality we are betrayed at table since 1945.

Here’s an idea 💡! You GO and fight for Peace, I have.

Go and fight, Publius.

Then get betrayed and used.

Then come back and discuss “means.”

When you have and know you were betrayed and a dupe, just remember you fooled yourself first. In my case thinking it was for the country’s good. It may have been in the end, too soon to tell.

Your war is against Human Nature, by the way.

War as means for peace is self negating. - Your enemy is Human Nature. This is why The Peace Movement and Communism/ Progressives are natural allies, they both have a Common enemy of Humanity.

Would you say these Equal Treaties require just statesmen? The noticeable lack thereof may be partly to blame.

Statesmen of a certain frame, certainly. But more than that, it’s the sense that all wars are Crusades now, hence all enemies must be not just Defeated, but Destroyed and/or Converted. We can’t just stop Putin, we have to overthrow him. Restraint has vanished from diplomacy.
